Excerpt from ‘Welcome Pack for New and Prospective Employees’:
- only after many failed ventures that husband and wife Edward and Patricia Blum began Infinity Systems in Galveston, Texas. Originally a mail order company for computer hobbyists, Infinity Systems soon grew to offer everything from video games to lawn furniture. After a round of investment by the Eight Prospects venture capital group, Infinity Systems became a listed company, changing its name to the one we all know and love today. The Infinity Corporation was born, rapidly expanding its operations beyond the United States and offering its wide range of products and services across the globe. After a tragic plane crash took the lives of Edward and Patricia Blum, new CEO Herman Horowitz stepped into the limelight. Already a well-loved philanthropist, and TIME magazine Man Of The Year, Herman lead the company in bold new directions. Part of this revitalisation took the form of the Joining the Grid program bringing internet connectivity to underprivileged areas of the United States and the developing world. This brainchild would allow Infinity to help the country in its time of need. When Hurricane Freya struck, it caused billions of dollars worth of damage and flooding to New York, Philadelphia and other cities on the Eastern seaboard. Catching a nation unaware, Freya destroyed historical landmarks, entire buildings, neighbourhoods and put 90% of the world famous New York subway out of action. With the experience gained from establishing infrastructure in impoverished areas, Infinity held out a helping hand, reconnecting communication and power networks to thousands of homes and businesses, including the New York Stock Exchange, providing stability and expertise during the nation’s moment of crisis. The President herself acknowledged the positive effect Infinity had on the nation in a now infamous speech just one week after Freya struck, thanking the company for being a "beacon in our darkest hour". Even the company mascot, Captain Infinity, became a figurehead for those displaced and affected by Freya. Following the reconstruction, Infinity offered the expertise it had gained in Freya’s aftermath to municipal governments across the United States and South East Asia, strengthening communication, energy, and travel networks against disasters both natural and man made. After Herman Horowitz left Infinity to become Head of Homeland Security, I was elected by a board of eight directors to become the company’s new CEO. Now, with offices in nearly every major city across the globe, Infinity’s reach knows no bounds. But I don’t believe in resting on my laurels, and neither should you. As a new recruit to Infinity, you will become a valued and integral part of our multinational family. Infinity can offer you excellent prospects for development and advancement, helping you become the person that you want to be. As part of our ‘All Roads Lead To You’ initiative we will periodically ask you a specially designed set of questions. The answers and data you provide will determine your place amongst the Infinity family. We believe that everyone has reservoirs of hidden and untapped potential, and we want to help you unlock those talents, giving you the skills and know how to help further your career with us. The sky really is the limit! Thank you, and welcome to our family. Yours, Sherry Beckett, CEO “Family is forever” |
